General Instruction:
- Candidates must have registered their names at https://apprenticeshipindia/org/course-search or http://portal.mhrdnats.govin & non- registered candidates are likely to be rejected.
- The fresh pass-out candidates (passing their respective courses in 2017,2018, 2019) only can apply ; candidates who have passed the qualifying examination earlier than 2017 are not eligible. Candidates with post-graduation are not eligible to apply.
- Those candidates who have completed the qualifying examination as regular candidates are only eligible to aPPly.
- Graduate degree holders who had training or job experience for a period of one year or more after attaining the essential qualification shall NOT eligible for being engaged as an apprentice under the act.
- The period of training will be 12 months commencing from execution of the contract of Apprenticeship.
- Reservation will be applied as per the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules 1992 as amended from time to time. Applications belonging to SC (Scheduled Caste)/ST (Schedule Tribe)/ OBC(Other Backward Classes)- Non Creamy layer shall produce their caste certificates in prescribed format issued by the competent authority.
- Selected candidates have to submit the “Medical Fitness Certificate” at the time of joining.
- The selected candidates must execute a contract for a period of one year of training as per provision of the Apprentices Act, 1961 and rules framed there under.
- Before applying, the candidates should ensure that he/she fulfills the eligibility criteria and other norms mentioned in the advertisement.
- It shall not be obligatory on the part of the Naval Materials Research Laboratory, where training is imparted, to bffer any employment to any apprentice after completion of period of his/her apprenticeship training.
- Suppression of facts will lead to disqualification at any stage of the selection process.
- NMRL reserve the right to increase/decrease the number of seats for apprenticeship training.
- Any canvassing or personal follow up with an intention for inducting the process of selection of apprentice by and on behalf of any candidates shall lead to immediate cancellation of candidates.
- NMRL reserves the right to withdraw/cancel the advertisement/selection process if circumstances so warrant without assigning any reason thereof.
- The apprentices will not be provided any quarters/hostel accommodations/transport by this establishment during the training period.

- Initially known as Naval Chemical & Metallurgical Laboratory (NCML) the laboratory was set up on 5th January 1953 in a small work centre admeasuring 6000 sq. ft. at Naval Dockyard, Bombay to render scientific assistance to Indian Navy for their day-to-day maintenance problems. Subsequently, R&D activities and many technologies in the field of underwater anti-corrosive and anti-fouling paints and Cathodic protection comparable to western countries were developed and accepted by the Indian Navy.
- The scope of the laboratory widened in mid-seventies due to continuous interaction with the users i.e. Indian Navy. In 1995, Naval Chemical & Metallurgical Laboratory re-christening as Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) and was shifted to Ambernath from Naval Dockyard, Bombay in 1997.
- Simultaneously, the thrust areas for R&D activities in areas such as High capacity fuel cell, Specialty polymers, Processing technologies for metals and ceramics, Advanced protection technologies, Chemical and biological means of environmental control have registered a noticeable growth during the late nineties. The excellent performance in the thrust area programmes led to DRDO approval of expansion and modernization of the laboratory, which resulted in the creation of full-fledged 60 acres Technical-cum- Residential complex at Ambernath. NMRL has been working for the last 6 decades primarily in the area of materials and technologies suitable for the marine environment.
- Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) pursuing basic research as well as application-oriented technology development in several areas viz. Metallurgy, Polymer, Ceramics, Coating, Corrosion and Electrochemical Protection, Marine Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences.
- NMRL has been awarded Quality Management System Certification ISO 9001-2015.
- NMRL was established in 1953 as the Naval Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratory, an in-house laboratory of the Navy, located at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. It was brought under the administrative control of DRDO in the early 1960s.[1] The laboratory is located in its own technical-cum residential complex at Ambernath, Maharashtra. The laboratory still has its erstwhile infrastructure intact in Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, without any physical scientific or administrative presence.
