General Information:
- Applications are invited from eligible candidates for engaging to the following posts of Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research (AMD) purely on temporary basis for a period of two years extendable for one more year and co-terminus with the duration of the project.
- Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research (AMD) is in the process of executing a project on “Improvement of Laboratory Capabilities”. With a view to supplement professional manpower for achieving the targets of successful completion of the project, AMD proposes to engage young professionals to support its officers. In this regard, applications are invited from willing and eligible individuals for inducting them on purely temporary basis for the following posts on consolidated remuneration for a period of two years from the date of induction, extendable by one more year as per the functional need. Terms and conditions,eligibility criteria, etc.
- The terms of engagement/induction shall be for a period of two years, extendable for one more year, as per the functional need. The period can also be curtailed based on performance evaluation. The appointment of the Laboratory Assistants and Project Associates would be on Full-time basis and they would not be permitted to take up any other assignment during the period of engagement with Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration & Research. All extant provisions/instructions of Government of India etc. shall be strictly followed and the engagement/induction shall be purely temporary in nature. Therefore, mere selection of the candidate to the above post shall not confer him/her a right to claim for regular
employment/absorption in AMD. - All professionals engaged/inducted will be required to furnish oath of secrecy in prescribed format at the time of reporting for induction. The professionals may not, except with the previous sanction of AMD in the discharge of his/her duties, publish a book or a compilation of articles or participate in a radio broadcast / TV telecast / any other media or contribute an article or write a letter to any newspaper or periodical or any other media, either in his/her own name or anonymously or pseudonymous in the name of any other person, if such book, article, broadcast uses any information that he/she may gather as part of this project, without the prior approval of AMD.
- During the period of his/her assignment with AMD, the professional would be subject to the provisions of the Indian Official Secret Act, 1923 and will not divulge any information gathered by him/her during the period of assignment to anyone who is not authorized to know/have the same.
- The professional engaged by the AMD shall in no case represent or give opinion or advice to others in any manner which is adverse to the interest of AMD.
- AMD reserves the right to cancel the appointment of the professionals i.e., Laboratory Assistants and Project Associates at any time, without providing any reason whatsoever. However, in the normal course, it will provide one month’s notice. The professionals can also seek for termination of the Contract upon giving one month’s notice to AMD
- Laboratory Assistants and Project Associates will be paid TA/DA after their engagement/induction for the project in AMD for their field visits and official tours, if any. The entitlements for travel on tour have to be based on the 7th CPC rates only. Respective Regional Directors/HOO will be the approving authority.

During the application stage, applicants have option for
choosing the regional office where they would like to attend for interview. - Shortlisted candidates will be called for online interview at the place chosen by them in their application.
- The selection shall be made on the basis of recommendations of Selection Committee constituted for the purpose by AMD. AMD will issue communication to the selected candidates to join.
- The candidates called for online interview will be required to produce original certificates in support of fulfilling the eligibility criteria in respect of educational qualification, experience,caste, etc. during interview and at the time of joining.
- No TA/DA will be provided to the candidates for attending the interview.

- The prime mandate of Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research is to identify and evaluate uranium resources required for the successful implementation of Atomic Energy program of the country. For implementing this important task investigations are taken up across the length and breadth of the country from Regional Exploration & Research Centres located at New Delhi , Bengaluru, Jamshedpur, Shillong, Jaipur, Nagpur and Hyderabad (Headquarter & South Central Region). The Directorate is presently employing latest technology viz. Time Domain EM system along with gamma-ray spectrometer and magnetometer for airborne geophysical surveys, and multi-disciplinary field operations viz. geological, geophysical, Geo-chemical surveys on regional as well as detailed scale and drilling activities by induction of state of the art hydrostatic rigs. The laboratories, to support the field investigations, are equally well equipped with latest facilities viz. Mineralogy-Petrology-Geochronology Group with WDXRF, EPMA and Chemistry Group with ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and these labs have recently acquired SX 100 EPMA, EDXRF and TIMS. The Directorate also has Beach-sands & Offshore, Rare metal and rare earth Investigations Groups and very well equipped Physics and Instrumentation Groups.
- Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) for Exploration and Research is the oldest unit of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Under the Atomic Energy Act, Dr D N Wadiapassed by the Govt. of India on April 15, 1948 and followed by the creation of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) on August 10, 1948, AMD was created on July 29, 1949 as ‘Rare Minerals Survey Unit’ with headquarter in New Delhi. It was renamed first as ‘Raw Materials Division’ and then as ‘Atomic Minerals Division’ in 1958. Its headquarter was later shifted to Hyderabad in1974. In keeping with its growing stature as one of the country’s leading scientific organizations involved in multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted exploration-cum-analytical-cum research activities, the ‘Division’ was rechristened as a ‘Directorate’ on July 29, 1998 on the eve of its stepping into the ‘Golden Jubilee’ Year.
- AMD commenced its operations on October 3, 1950 with a nucleus of 17 Geoscientists which has grown to 2354 personnel (in all categories) as on 01.11.2016. The principal mandate of the unit was to carry out geological exploration and discover mineral deposits required for Atomic Energy power program of the country. Professor D.N. Wadia, FRS, a doyen among Indian geologists guided the exploration program of the Directorate till 1970 as ‘Geological Advisor’ of the department. The unit saw Dr. P.K. Ghosh as its first Director appointed in 1957. Directors who have successfully steered the Directorate to its present glory are as follows
- With the shifting of headquarters from Delhi to Hyderabad in 1974, activities of the directorate were spread out by opening new regional centers at Shillong (North Eastern Region), Hyderabad (South Central Region) and Jaipur (Western Region) in addition to the four already existing centers at New Delhi (Northern Region), Bangalore (Southern Region), Calcutta / Jamshedpur (Eastern Region) and Nagpur (Central Region), and equipping various laboratories at headquarters with the state of the art instruments.
