General Information:
- Applications are invited from eligible Indian citizens having following eligibility criteria for recruitment to the posts of Constable & Lady Constable in West Bengal Police – 2020. NVF,Home Guard personnel and Civic Volunteers serving in West Bengal Police only are also eligible to apply subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria.
- The applicant must not be less than 18 (Eighteen) years old and must not be more than 27 (Twenty Seven) years old as on 01.01.2021. The upper age limit shall be relaxed by 05 (Five) years for the candidates belonging to the categories of Scheduled Castes (SC) & Scheduled Tribes (ST) and by 03 (Three) years for the candidates belonging to the categories of Other Backward Classes (OBC). NVF and Home Guard personnel serving in West Bengal Police are also eligible for relaxation of upper age limit as per existing Government order. However, no age relaxation is available for the Civic Volunteer personnel serving under West Bengal Police.
- The applicant must have passed Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent.
- The applicant must be able to speak, read and write in Bengali language. However, this provision will not be applicable to the persons who are permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts.
- NVF, Home Guard personnel and Civic Volunteers serving under West Bengal Police and desirous of applying should complete 03 (three) years of service as on 01.01.2021. Application Forms may be submitted through on-line or off-line modes during the period from 22.01.2021 (00:00 hrs.) to 20.02.2021 (5 PM).
- The last date of receipt of filled in Application Form through postal services (for off-line applicants) is 20.02.2021 (5 PM).
- The last date of deposit of Application and/or Processing Fees in respect of only the applicants applying through on-line mode using Punjab National Bank Challan will be 23.02.2021 during banking hours due to technical reasons.
- The selection process by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board is transparent and purely merit-based. Hence, the applicants are advised to beware of the unscrupulous elements, racketeers, touts who may misguide the candidates with false promises of getting them selected for the job on illegal consideration.
- Recruitment process of Constable/Lady Constable posts will comprise Preliminary Written Test followed by the Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Final Written Examination and Interview. Preliminary Written Test will be of 100 marks. Paper will contain total 100 MCQ questions of 10 mark each. Question paper will be set in two languages (Bengali & Nepali).The duration of test will be 1(one) hour. There will be negative marking for each incorrect answer. Candidates who got qualified in Preliminary Written Test, will be called for Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
- All the candidates who qualify in the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be called to appear in the Final Written Examination. The Final Written Examination will have 85 Multiple Choice (Four choices) Objective Type Questions (MCQs) carrying 01 mark each. The duration of the examination will be 1 hour. Question paper will be set in two languages (Bengali & Nepali) except questions on English language. Candidates will be shortlisted for Interview of 15 marks, based on Final Written Examination performance.
- Eligible candidates should fill application only through online mode in between 22-01-2021 to 20-02-2021. Personal and education details should fill in online application at appropriate place. Candidates should upload scanned copy of latest passport size photograph and signature in online application. Personal email id and mobile number must be filled in online application. Print of duly filled online application should retain for future use.

- The West Bengal Police is one of the two police forces of the Indian state of West Bengal. (The other is the Kolkata Police, which has a separate jurisdiction.)
- The West Bengal Police was reorganized under provisions of the Police Act 1861 during the British Raj. It is headed by an officer designated as the Director General of Police who reports to the State Government through the Home (Police) Department. Shri Virendra, an IPS officer of 1985 batch is the DG & IGP of West Bengal Police since June 1, 2018.
- The West Bengal Police has jurisdiction concurrent with the twenty two revenue districts of the State (excluding the metropolitan city of Kolkata) which comprises one of the two general police districts of West Bengal as under the Police Act 1861. The other general police district consists of the major portions of the metropolitan area of Kolkata, and has a separate police force (Kolkata Police Commissionerate) constituted and administered under the Calcutta Police Act 1866 & Calcutta (Suburban Police) Act 1866. This arrangement, unique in India, was conceived during colonial times when Calcutta was the capital of British India. The city police have been kept independent of the state police force.
- The police administration in the state is divided into three police zones and a Government Railway Police (GRP) Zone, each headed by an Inspector General of Police. Each Zone consists of one or more Ranges headed by an officer designated as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (or Special Inspector General of Police). In all, there are 28 police districts (including four consisting of Government Railway Police districts), each headed by a Superintendent of Police. The three Zones are South Bengal Zone, Western Bengal Zone and North Bengal Zone, and an office of the IGP railways.training college.
- Each Range comprises two or more districts and the Range is headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). In West Bengal there are 10 ranges, each range is headed by a DIG.
- Each Police District is either coterminous with the Revenue district or in the case of Government Railway Police districts, is located within a number of revenue districts. It is headed by a District Superintendent of Police (or simply called Superintendent of Police). Each district comprises two or more Sub-Divisions, several Circles and Police Stations. But in recent times, Several districts are divided into police districts for better police administration. Each of those police districts are headed by an SP.
- A Circle comprises several Police Stations. An Inspector of Police who heads a police circle is the Circle Inspector of Police or CI.
